World Blogger Championship of Online Poker Event #3

JKs, JQs, AA, QQ, A10s, AK, and KJs all appeared in the first 20 hands of play as I fired up HandsFreePoker V. 3.1 for play in the World Blogger Championship of Online poker Event #3. It’s an exciting week for the poker playing blogger community, as Poker Stars is hosting a week long series of events designed to reward the growing number of poker enthusiasts who promote the game via their own subjective forum.

A series of preliminary events runs through Saturday, with the culminating Main Event on Sunday the 31st. SCOOP tickets to value of $1050 are awarded to the winner for prelim events, and SCOOP tickets to value of $3,150 for the main event 1st place finisher.

And as I write this I called off 2/3 of my stack with AQ…why do I make these egregious errors? Thanks goodness I work for a living and this is a hobby. And then the next hand I double back with AK! What a weird run so far…

Need Assistance with Sifting Through Endless Amounts of Blog Content?

In addition to blogging for Hands Free Poker, I manage the blog at my day job, where I work as the PR Manager for Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.  I recently published a post that I thought may be a nice supplement to my previous post on Off the Felt, which dealt with finding key online sources for poker related content. If you are new to the blogosphere and are starting to rely more and more on blogs from pros who offer valuable tips, strategies, lessons and offer tastes of the poker good life, you may find yourself struggling to make sense of the virtually endless sea of information portals. Check out this post for advice on how to rise above the madness.

Overwhelmed by the Blogosphere? Maybe Regator Can Help…

Blogs are seemingly taking over the internet. The biggest question you must ask yourself when considering subscribing to a new blog is, “Can I trust this author to provide me with credible sourcing?” Far and away the biggest critique of blogs is that they are ruining investigative journalism by allowing anyone (literally anyone) to publish subjective content. Pressure to satisfy those thirsty for accurate information falls squarely on the shoulder of the blogger.

If you’re new to the blogosphere, how do you go about searching for usable, credible, and accurate content? Try your hand at Regator, a revolutionary tool for scanning and analyzing the blogosphere, complete with a premium iphone application. Regator eliminates the cumbersome process of weeding through potentially unworthy blogs by placing the web’s top sources literally at your finger tips. It is personally curated by a former magazine writer, and offers subscription capability, video viewing, recommendations of related posts and keyword searches for specific topics. Much like the service offered by Digg, you can also view the most popular posts from other Regator users.

For the company’s sake, I hope they do a good job of picking out the best searchable content, otherwise the $2 price tag for the app might seem a little inflated.

Poker and Social Media – A Marriage Made in Heaven

While it’s true that Chris Moneymaker set off the ‘poker book heard round the world’ in 2003, igniting a massive trend towards the delightfully addicting ‘Texas Hold Em’, you can make the argument that web-based social media has just been just as effective in driving players to the game.

We can endlessly thank Moneymaker for sensationalizing the game (credit also due to ESPN), but did he really teach us much about the tenets of poker?  All I knew after watching him win is that bright lights mixed with colorful cards and dollar signs was a past time that I could stand behind…I just needed to learn the game. Moneymaker has been wholeheartedly unsuccessful in teaching me anything.

Zynga Poker on Facebook, Poker 2.0, Pokertube, PokerRoad Two Plus Two Poker Forum…these have been my training grounds. Thanks to the massive proliferation of poker related social media, I feel as if I’d be almost as competent at the game of poker even if I had never played a hand.

Clearly, we are huge believers in the power of social media here at Hands Free Poker. We value your feedback and two-way participation, and therefore encourage you to become our fan on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, visit our YouTube page for video demonstrations of our software,  and tell your friends to do the same!

We’re about to unveil a special Thanksgiving week promotion, so be sure to check your email in the next couple of days.

The Inaugural Canadian Poker Expo – An International Experience Worth Documenting

While it does virtually everything else, Hands Free Poker version 3.1 cannot fight the inevitability of being card dead in tournaments. As I write this, I am utilizing v 3.1 to do battle in the $27,500 guarantee on FullTilt, but haven’t seen a card above a 9 in 30 mins. :)

Now that our team is back in the states after unveiling our software to the Canadian poker playing population at the first ever Canadian Poker Expo in Toronto, I thought it might be fun to give you a visual recap of our action packed days at the booth, and our subsequent take away’s from the experience.

This was my first expo experience, and from my limited perspective, I thought it was a huge success. Unlike Vegas, where we’ve exhibited before, each person we encountered was 100% committed to the game of poker and highly enthused about the value-add our product provides to the online gaming experience. Thanks again for your overwhelming support during our time in Canada.

I’ve embedded a slide show below for your viewing pleasure, enjoy!

Low Stakes SCOOP Six Max won by a SUPER PRO

hevadkhan_large_1

So I played the $50 scoop six max and had my initial 5000 chips up to 40k at one point and then got semi cold decked with JJ vs QQ in a pretty much unescapable situation…blah blah

What I was stunned to see was that the next morning a very well known pro, Hevad Kahn, won the LOW STAKES ONE.  He won the 8000 player $50 buyin.  This kind of thing just blows my mind because this guy just won $1 million at a caesars tournament not so long ago and yet he played the $50 tourney and obviously took it seriously and had enough pride to WIN the thing.

Just an incredible accomplishment, obviously different than winning a big live tourney, but in my eyes very very impressive.
See the link to the card player article here.
